Help please

the-angel-24601:

Hello my lovely friends,

Do any of you have experience with the law or know lawyers? I ask because I am pressing charges against the restaurant for firing me for being raped in their parking lot. I am working with an advocate group and they are providing me assistance free of charge.

The only thing is, they just sent me the charges I’m going to file and I swear to godstiel it’s like it’s written in a foreign language. They asked me to “look it over and say if it looks alright”, but how can I do that if I don’t know what ‘alright’ looks like for a lawyer?

Could any of you ask around, or perhaps reblog this in the hopes some person with a legal degree would be willing to do me a random act of kindness and look over about 5 pages of legal documents? It’s not much, but it’s confusing to me and hard to think about because it’s a sensitive subject.

If anyone can help, my ask and submit boxes are open. Thank you!!

SIGNAL BOOST: HELP ME CREATE THE NON-FETISH POC MEDIA BLOG LIST

strugglingtobeheard:

navigatethestream:

okay y’all, here’s the deal.

i’m basically working on a list of POC photo/media blogs that acknowledge the source of the content they reblog/recieve and are not out to turn subjects into fetishes.

what do i mean by this?/ give me an example

take the tumblr  18° 15’ N, 77° 30’ W for example, a blog that reblogs and posts a lot of pictures of black women. have you ever noticed how the minute this blog reblogs a picture the original credits/information disappears and up pops “18° 15’ N, 77° 30’ W” in link form?

have you ever peeped their mission statement where it says

This blog is a display of my greatest weakness: black women and particular types. I like what my friends call “strange things” about black women…like their collar bones, big hair, nappy hair, curly hair, bald head. The only thing that can top those things is a good smelling woman… Since I can’t smell them thru the www, I’ll be satisfied with the visuals. So right now, this blog is just a collection of images that have piqued my interest or satisfied some desire by forcing me to shake my head and punctuate my temporary disbelief in the momentary satiation with a “GOT-DAMN”. Yeah; nappy haired, big haired, curly haired or bald headed sistrines. Yeah, got-damn. Yeah; sistrines with pronounced collar bones. Yeah, got-damn. Yeah; sistrines with an antiquated fashion sense and a futuristic sophistication. Yeah, got-damn.

as athinkinganimal astutely put “If that isn’t some objectifying bullshit, I don’t know what is”.

this sort of behaviour when it comes to POC media oriented blogs really has to end. we need to hold blog owners claiming to represent us accountable for not doing shady problematic shit. we can have blogs that celebrate the beauty of POC existence without the mods going “i collect these pictures because when i look at them blood rushes to places and my body says YEEEAHHH BAYYYBEEEE!”

or taking credit for pictures that are not theirs in order to promote their own blog

yeah no that’s hella gross.

so if you know of blogs that are

  • POC only {people of color, as in non-white}
  • collects and posts photos and other forms of media
  • maintains correct attribution of sources for photos posted and reblogged
  • is receptive to being told the actual source for a photo or piece of media
  • and doesn’t fetishize the subjects that comprise the theme of this blog
then please send the name of the blog to my ask bog, or you can put the link in my fan mail. i will compile a list, put it on a page of my blog which will be viewable by all.
i should note: if you’re a mod for a POC themed blog and want to submit to the list, know that i will be going through your blog with a magnifying glass in my hand. i will be looking to make sure you haven’t removed credit from reblogged or posted photos, you are receptive to people asking for credit on their photos and subsequently ponying up, and you are not a fetishizing type of person.
so is everybody clear on that?
alright cool. submit away.

signal boost!!!!! i will be submitting some stuff soon!!

Anyone willing to help with a blog dedicated to trigger warnings on specific TV shows?

teenymoose:

For example, warning people of a scene involving rape in Game of Thrones, or any other TV show. Basically, we’d just need people who watch the show or movie/s and have them update a post/make a post with warnings for each specific episode of a show, if applicable.

If it were a show like Supernatural, doing a tw for something like blood would be… kind of difficult and expected by the genre, so may not be included. Torture, on the other hand, would be.

If you’re interested, message Trigger-Warnings (the blog) or Dean (the girl).

(I tagged some people I thought may be, if you were wondering why you were tagged.)

“This one is very serious, guys:
I came upon these two on the sidewalk. They were having a conversation. “Excuse me,” I said, addressing the girl: “I’m sorry to interrupt, but is there anyway I can take your photo?”
“Why would you want my photo?” she asked.
“Because you look beautiful,” I said. And she did. She was Sudanese. There is a very distinct beauty among people from the Sudan, and she was filled up with it. Suddenly the man cut in:
“I was just telling her she was beautiful,” he said.
Naively, I assumed I had just walked up on one stranger giving a compliment to another. I wanted to capture the moment. “Let me take your photograph together,” I said. The man seemed reluctant, he started smiling nervously and inching away. But the girl called him back.
“Come take a picture with me,” she said. Encouraged by her attention, he returned. She put her arm around him, and I took the photo.
As I examined the photos on my camera, the man started whispering to the girl. She answered him in a loud voice: “I told you! I’m not that kind of girl.” She seemed agitated now. Finally sensing that I had misread the situation, I stepped between them. The man began hurrying down the sidewalk.
When the man left, the girl’s demeanor changed completely. She seemed shaken. Her eyes were tearing up. “He just offered me five hundred dollars to go out with him,” she said. “And then when I said ‘no,’ he offered me one thousand. Why does this always happen to me?”
“It happens a lot?” I asked.
“All the time,” she said. “I’m sorry I’m getting emotional. I just can’t go out of my house without this kind of thing happening. I have a son. I’m a mother. I would never degrade myself like that. I just don’t understand why this keeps happening.”
“Do you mind if I tell this story?” I asked.
“Please,” she said. “Tell it.”
Let’s hope this man, and all men, realize the emotional damage they are inflicting on the women they try to buy. In the meantime, feel free to SHARE.*
Dear Tumblr, fuck you for trying to erase this.

I’m saving this post because as many times as Tumblr tries to erase this woman’s story and act like anything about this was okay, that’s as many times as I’m reposting it. They can either cut me off or stop being assnuggets about this. whichEVER.

i will always reblog this. because if this woman were white, the mass-erasure of this image and story would not be happening. and that just speaks volumes to me. the bigotry that contributes to this woman’s constant harassment is the same bigotry that led to the erasure of this story in order to ‘protect’ this man. they are COMPLETELY connected. this is a vicious cycle that perpetuates anti-blackness and the degradation and silencing of black women and women of color as a whole.

oh look trubr0wn just deployed more truth bombs.

FUCK YOU TUMBLR. I will reblog this every god damn twelve hours. You will NOT erase this woman’s story just because HONY is a bigot who is full of shit. Tumblr staff is full of shit. But I just want to see if Tumblr will ignore the e-mail I just wrote to them getting unwanted messages by users I’ve told to leave me alone and will send me another e-mail about “violating copyright,” if not try to delete my blog for reblogging this picture and story that needs to be seen and heard.
I’m not claiming ownership of anything, BTW.  Picture, story behind the picture, and the erasure of the picture copyrighted2012 by humansofnewyork.tumblr.com .  And reblogging this picture has an educational reason behind it — to show how black women are dehumanized, and then silenced if they ever speak out.

Tumblr deleted this post from everyone’s blog. Here it is again. And people have saved copies to their computers, including me. Story’s not going away. The internet is forever.

If you are looking through google for information on the wonderful invention known as Plan B, Emergency contraception or the Morning After Pill-
avoid Morningafterpill.org, which comes up on page 1 of ‘morning after pill’ searches

It is a actually a Anti-Abortion, Anti-Contraception site meant to shame women into thinking they are ending human life by using any method of emergency birth control. It is run by Catholics and gives an EXCESSIVE amount of misinformation about Plan B, going as far as to inform women they are Killing their child and this is simply not true.

TRANS COUCHSURFING NETWORK - PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST THE HELL OUT OF THIS

transcouchnetwork:

Hi! I just started a tumblr, the Transgender Couchsurfing Network.  After seeing dozens of posts come across my dash about displaced or homeless trans people needing places to crash, I decided that there had to be a way to organize these posts somehow, and to put those in need in contact with those willing to lend a hand.  If you’re trans and need a place to stay, or if you have a couch or floor or spare bedroom available for someone in need, I urge you to reblog this post, follow the blog, and get the word out.  Everything is still under heavy construction, but the more people that see and hear about this blog, the more people will be able to benefit from it!  I know that there are so many people here on tumblr who are in need of a place to stay for a night or two, and I also know how many amazing, wonderful people would be willing to host someone and help out a trans person in need.  We all know what a huge problem unemployment and homelessness are for trans people (especially TPOC and trans women) — even a place to stay for a night can make the biggest difference!  So PLEASE, even if you can’t offer up your couch, REBLOG AND SIGNAL BOOST.  I really, really think that this is something that could help a lot of people, and I would LOVE to see this spammed all over my dash and the dashes of all of my lovely followers!!

If you have or will have student loans, you need to read this.

dragonbloodink:

Something potentially life-changing for millions of people has happened.

On March 8, 2012, Rep. Hansen Clarke introduced H.R. 4170, the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012. This act proposes that people with federal student loan debt pay 10% of their discretionary income for a period of 10 years, and then the rest of the debt would be forgiven. I’m not clear on the details, but I’m also hearing that somehow it proposes to roll private debt into federal debt so it would apply, too.

Student loan debt is financially crippling millions of people and having negative effects on the economic recovery efforts.

Suze Ormond gives a very good explanation here of why student loan debt is contributing to the economic crisis in America. Not to mention the personal cost for young people trying to start out in life with the double whammy of a poor economy and serious loan debt. What’s even less certain is how this will affect Americans for generations to come, with some calling young Americans “The New Lost Generation.”

When you can barely afford to pay your loans, you aren’t buying cars. You aren’t buying houses. You aren’t spending a lot of money on consumer items or vacations. You’re trying to scrape up enough money to pay that bill so Sallie Mae will stop sending you threatening letters.

Think what would happen if suddenly, all of the people sending most of their paychecks to student loan companies had hundreds of dollars more to spend on other things.

  • Think how many people would move out of their family home and get a place of their own.
  • Think how many people would buy a car.
  • Think how many couples would decide to get married.
  • Think how many people would be able to start saving for retirement, or be able to afford health insurance.
  • Think how many people would buy clothes, shoes, electronics, or better-quality food.
  • Think how many people would stop considering suicide as the only way out of an apparently impossible financial crisis.
  • And now think how all that money flooding into the economy would improve things in America.
This is one economic problem that is not going to get better over time without action. It’s actually getting worse. It’s not only students themselves suffering. With nowhere else to go, many have moved back in with families and are relying on family support. That’s making it very hard for their parents to retire.

To date, the government has done little to nothing to help out people with existing student debt, despite economists screaming from the rooftops that student loans are a bubble about to burst and when it does, it could tip the country right back into another full-blown recession or even depression. At the very least, it’s likely hampering efforts to get the economy back on track.

It’s telling when you consider where the government chooses to help. The government bailed out the banks. It bailed out the auto industry. It put in place measures to help people facing foreclosure. It’s looking at addressing credit card rules. But what has it done to help people with student loans, which – again – is now a larger problem than credit card debt?

This is a groundbreaking measure and it needs people to get behind it immediately and show their support, to let Congress know what such a relief could mean to a generation of young people struggling under a mountain of debt unlike anything our country has seen before.

I fully support The Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 as a way to help stimulate the economy, remove a financial and emotional burden from millions of people, and help pull the country out of the sinkhole it entered nearly four years ago.

The Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 will stop the bleeding. We need other things to happen, too.

  • We need representatives to call for student loan reforms to stop the problem for future generations.
  • We need representatives to call for colleges and universities to bring down tuition for current and future students.
  • We need representatives to support community and technical colleges.
  • We need to change the tenor of conversation about higher education in America.
  • We need media to start asking the hard questions about why this happened in the first place.

But first, we have to put a tourniquet on the debt that is bleeding Americans dry.

If you support this bill, contact your representatives and senators and tell them so immediately. Call them. Email them. Write letters.

this was not in the manual: Another call to action (trigger warnings for abuse)

angel-face:

Recently misha-trollins has brought to light the fact that her family is in dire need of our help. After a long history of emotional, verbal, and at times physical abuse from a family member, they are trying to get out. This step alone is amazingly courageous and not something to be taken lightly, but on top of this she had the strength to talk about it and ask for help. I won’t get into the specifics not only because they shouldn’t matter, but because she has addressed them all in this post as well as answered people’s questions on her blog. All that matters to me is that she has been standing alone in this for so long, and now she deserves support.

Just earlier this week the Supernatural fandom showed just how much love and support they can offer to a fellow fan. The Donate for Sashi campaign was amazingly successful, and even without personally knowing Sashi I found myself moved to tears. Now, you may be thinking that abuse is not the same as a life-threatening illness, but I would beg to differ. Abuse, even of just the emotional kind, can severely lessen someone’s quality of life, a burden which no one deserves to bear. Death threats, even if not carried out, cause a person to live in fear for their safety. On top of this I know there are probably skeptics out there; the same people who doubted whether Sashi was ill might question whether or not this abuse is real. While there’s no way to prove anything to these skeptics, I would beg you to look beyond such doubts.

I am in no way qualified to set up a donation fund. My knowledge of such things is worse than limited, and I don’t have thousands of followers to spread the word. What I do have, though, is an insane amount of love and concern for my friend and the desire to help her and her family escape the toxic environment they’re living in. She has shown that she is willing to accept donations, a step which takes courage in and of itself.

It doesn’t take much. If five-hundred people donated $1, she could help support her family that much longer. It’s not too much to ask, and we’ve all seen the generosity the Supernatural fandom has to offer. Beyond that, though, you can help simply by signal boosting. Even if you can’t donate, maybe one of your followers can. I don’t have a fancy blog for you to visit, but if you need incentive I’m offering a fic-for-donations system that you can read about in this post. If you’re just a generous soul, you can also donate to her PayPal through nicci.coombs@gmail.com.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. If you’re considering donating, thank you.  If you’re simply keeping Nic in your thoughts, thank you. Every little bit helps.
