How to eat ramen according to Juzo Itami’s Tampopo…
I rewatched Inception the other day and got my usual Saito feels, then I was looking for some Saito graphic to tag-vomit into but it’s hard, man, ‘cos the Saito tag is full of anime, so I searched for ‘ken watanabe’ and found this instead.
I watched Tampopo years ago on an airplane, so the whole sitting in a tin can in the air all sleep-deprived added to the whole surreal experience of watching this surreal, delightful, oddball movie. I had no idea who Ken Watanabe was at the time, but now that I do, his earnest babyface giving its utmost attention to a bowl of noodles gives me such delight as cannot be contained.
Tampopo is an ode to food. In addition to this “quest for the perfect ramen experience” thing, there’s also the erotic foodplay between a yakuza gangster and his girlfriend, an older woman obsessed with squeezing food, the etiquette class on how to eat spaghetti, and OTHERS, I won’t spoil it. Just watch it, omg. What a happy-making movie.
