applesarefuckinghealthy asked: btw since you offered i'd like to know your anna/sam feels. because i ship it (and also even more i ship sam/ruby/anna) but i kind of don't have any coherent thoughts on it to justify/rationalise my shipping?

First of all, I would be remiss if I didn’t rec this Sam/Anna fic by our dear bro, Wyrm: to offer you all that lives, “Sam goes looking for his soul. He finds Anna instead.”

I think they have a lot in common in terms of how they’re both the sibling with the strong individualist streak who dared to leave their family because they want something better. They’re kindred spirits in that sense, and they’re both children of two worlds. They both value humanity but for whatever reason, they’re now stuck on its outside looking in, neither one or the other but CHOOSING to embrace the humanity in them anyway. I think S4 is a lonely time for them both. One headcanon I have is that during S4, Anna drops by and chills with Sam. Anna didn’t want to become an angel again; she only ate back her grace to survive. Sam didn’t necessarily think doing up his demon powers are a good thing; he thought it was the most expedient way to get Lilith. And their choices have alienated them from their family.

And the rest is mostly potential fic ideas. Sam doesn’t pray anymore except one night out of, what, sarcastic desperation, and Anna’s the only one who answers. He’s not exactly of the faith anymore these days, but neither is she exactly an angel, so it’s fitting. Or he’s jonesing for blood and he finds the presence of an angel either comforting or a source of distress, but either way, it’s a clarifying element. They wonder if they could’ve run away from their family forever if circumstances were different, but if circumstances were different then maybe they wouldn’t need to run away, so what is the point in asking? But they ask because that’s their way. They’re not afraid of uncomfortable answers. They prefer any uncomfortable truth to the party line, and their bullshit meter is pretty sensitive.

Then maybe Anna zaps them both to Barcelona because he’s always wanted to go there, and then she takes them to the Philippine cordillera because it’s her new favorite place, then she takes them to Florida where her favorite aunt lives and they watch invisibly as the old lady reads a Maeve Binchy novel in her kitchen, and Sam says, “Maybe you should go say hello,” and Anna just shakes her head and says it’s too late for that.
